Kingston's Conservation Commission approved hand demolition of a flood-damaged boat-repair building at 55 Landing Road as part of the Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center's climate resiliency plan, voting 5-0 with special conditions including $300-per-day fines for debris left in the river. Conservation Agent Matt Penella said the site, studied under a Seaport Economic Development Council grant, could see up to 10 feet of sea-level rise by 2100. The board separately clashed with Shore Drive homeowner Paul Walker, who said it was "becoming extraordinarily expensive" to keep paying his engineer "$165 an hour" while the commission withheld a compliance certificate over misplaced conservation markers, continuing that matter to September 9.
Commissioners also weighed a $7,000 quote to rewrite the town's wetland regulations against a roughly $5,000 annual land-management budget, opting to draft the update themselves, and voted to seek Massachusetts DEP help with a long-running 6 Prospect Street enforcement case ahead of a September 14 magistrate hearing.
