Recreation Commission · Meeting of September 21, 2026

Kingston Recreation Commission approves two-day 2027 "Battle of the Badges" tournament as field grows to 32 teams. The commission voted 5-0 to permit the public safety softball tournament for August 7 and 8, 2027, expanding from a single day after organizer Mike said the event has grown from eight teams five years ago to 32 this year, with out-of-state squads now asking to attend. Kingston Youth Sports Organization representative John Parker told the board a persistent "crop circle" irrigation problem, tied to iron and manganese buildup in the complex's wells, has spread from the Reardon field to Rizzo and B2, limiting the complex to running one well at a time.

Commission member Carl Pierre said the soccer end of the complex has "only one handicapped spot" and pushed for more. Staff also reported a Community Preservation Committee-funded court renovation at Graves Beach Park is under contract and expected done by the end of November.
