Kingston Recreation Commission clears model plane club to fly at town field after school fee hike. Resident Brian Stas, of the New England Control Line Combat Association, told the board his club flew free at the high school field for decades until the school committee began charging $100 an hour last year, sending members as far as Saugus to fly. The commission unanimously approved letting the club hold one or two contest dates in 2026 at the town's Obachinsky property, with the Academy of Model Aeronautics providing roughly $1 million in liability coverage per sanctioned event.
Members also voted unanimously to pursue Samson Fund money for a security camera system at Grace Beach Park and the Obachinsky property, after a similar Grace Beach request went unfunded in 2025. The board agreed to align a forthcoming parks memorial-item policy with the Conservation Commission's existing rules, with a draft due in February.
