Kingston Select Board Sets June 6 for Delayed Annual Town Meeting

KINGSTON — April 15, 2026 — Kingston pushes annual town meeting to June 6 after free cash certification arrives too late to finalize the warrant. The Select Board voted 4-1 Wednesday to reschedule, with Acting Finance Director Carol McCoy receiving credit from the board for securing the long-awaited state certification, which arrived the day of the meeting. Town Administrator Scott told the board the delay was compounded by errors in earlier warrant articles related to the water department that need to be corrected before town meeting can proceed. Member Missy Bateman cast the lone dissenting vote, noting she will have left the board by June 6 due to the May 16 town election. Late-May Saturday dates were eliminated one by one — May 23 falls on Memorial Day weekend and May 29-30 is blocked by graduation — leaving June 6 as the last practicable Saturday before the statutory June 30 budget deadline.
